Glitcheon is a Metroidvania in which Glitches and Bugs are an intentional part of the game's design, both visually and mechanically. It takes place in the virtual world of THE FORUM, a fictional tech-giant which has taken over all facets of everyday life.
Every new ability that is collected procedurally makes the game world glitchier and can be combined with other abilities in refreshing ways to reach new parts of the play environment.

Starting with basic shapes to block out an art asset | The asset in its finished state |
Some of the sprites I produced for the game, arranged in an atlas | We organize our ideas, meetings, schedules, references etc. on a shared miro board |
Starting with a silhouette, and filling it with lines before committing to shading | The finished art asset |
Glitcheon also features some 3D-backgrounds to add more depth to the environments |
Glitcheon is my current personal project that I develop in my spare time, alongside two friends across the globe. We started development of this Metroidvania at a game jam in 2020. Since we got plenty of positive feedback for it and all saw great potential in its premise, we decided to work on it further with the goal to turn the game into a full commercial release eventually.
One of the biggest challenges while making this game has been to coordinate a team with someone in the US, someone in Germany and yet another person in Australia. We all have to organize our team meetings at very specific times and need clear ideas of what is needed from each person throughout the coming week. Tools like Miro and Trello as well as our Discord server have certainly been helpful with this.
Personally, Glitcheon gives me a good counterbalance to my more technical software development job. Working on visuals and audio for this game lets me exercise a more creative, artistic way of thinking.
